When your job is watching kids of all ages you probably have your hands full, but when you have a pipe burst in one of your largest classrooms you have an even bigger problem. You have to figure out what to with the kids when the group is supposed to be in that area. You have to keep them entertained and happy and in their group.
This is what happened when we were called to the Boys and Girls Club in Palmetto. They had a flooded classroom and needed the water extracted from the carpets. We arrived within an hour of their call and started removing the water with our professional water extraction equipment.
After testing the walls for moisture we found that they were wet as well. This can cause a huge problem when you allow mold to start growing. Mold effects the health of the young and the old more than any other group of people. Although people with immune deficiencies should avoid mold at all costs as well.
After extracting the water from the carpets we applied a nontoxic spray to kill anything that might be starting to grow on the walls and carpets. We then set our DriEaz drying equipment to remove the remaining moisture from the walls, ceiling and carpets. We also determined that the vinyl coves needed to be removed as well. We removed them carefully so they could be reapplied later and save the costs of buying new ones.
We returned everyday for 4 days to check the moisture levels and reposition the equipment. The kids were so funny, wanting to know what every piece of equipment did. It was fun to teach them how wet moves to dry and how humidity works. Some of them may not have understood all of the words but when you can help answer children’s questions you help them grow.
