ServiceMaster SRQ gets called out to preform water extraction in many different places. Homes and businesses get flooded all the time; it’s just a fact of life. Sometimes, especially in businesses this is because building hasn’t been taken care of in the way it should. We were called out to the same business three times in a period of 2 months last year. The flashings on the roof had been damaged by wind over a period of years and now all the water was flowing into the area where they processed their shipping. We hurried to help each time and it was always the same problem, water was flooding into their work area.
We carefully moved computers, desks, and shipping containers to avoid further damage as the water poured in. We used flood pumpers to battle the water that had already soaked 20 feet or so into the area. For two hours we extracted water from the carpets as it continued to run down the exterior wall and into the business. Finally it stopped raining and we extracted the rest of the water from the carpets. We then set our dehumidifiers and fans to remove the rest of the water from the walls. We returned every day to check the moisture content of the walls and after four days they were finally dry.
The business owner assured me that the owner of the building was sending someone out to fix the problem. Whatever they did to try to fix the issue, didn’t work. Three weeks later we were back preforming the exact same task in the same area. So once again we extracted the water and set our equipment. Two weeks after that it happened again. I guess the building owner got tired of writing us checks because finally they replaced the flashing on the entire building.
