Sometimes water damage comes from outside of structures. Wind and rain can wear down siding and roofing materials. It doesn’t take a hurricane to have water intrusion in your home. Two summers ago we were called to Anna Maria Island because the wind and rain had blown water under the sliding doors of 10 units. Due to the age of the sliding doors the seals had broken down water had seeped onto carpet, tile, and hardwood flooring. When the association called we knew we had to hurry. It was still raining cats and dogs as we made our way out to the island. It was hard to even keep the 14 foot box truck in the right lane as the wind was gusting up to 60 miles an hour. Visibility was an issue as well, the rain was coming down in sheets.
When we arrived on site we found out that all of the rooms that needed water extraction had guests in them. We started the process of going door to door to let people know we were there to help and would need to remove the water. One by one we used flood pumpers and shop vacs to extract the water. For the first hour this was a nonstop process as it was still raining and the wind was still howling. Water was still leaking into the units, as soon as we extracted the water it would need to be done again. Finally after 4 hours of nonstop water removal we started the process of setting dehumidifiers and drying fans. Most of the guests of the resort were thrilled that we had come so quickly. They didn’t mind the inconvenience of the equipment running, at least they didn’t have to find a new place to stay. Most of the units were dry in 3 days, but a couple of the 2nd story units had gotten a lot more water and took 5 days. Still we didn’t have to remove any drywall or baseboards, even the wood floors were saved by our quick actions. This was a a prime example of the kind of company we are and what we can do.
