What happens when you have a fire sprinkler go off? What happens when it’s in a business? What happens when it is in a community library? You call the Bradonton water extraction for government buildings experts Service Master SRQ on 941 377-2455 and grab a cup of coffee.
We got a call on a Saturday morning about a year ago from a Library, we will just say in North Manatee County. They had a fire sprinkler break in a storage area and it had sprayed water for 2 hours before anyone could get in and turn it off. When we arrived we realized that most of the administrative offices flooring was soaked.
I do have to give credit to Libraries, they never put anything on the ground. None of their files, computers, books, or even personal belongings were wet because they were all kept off of the carpet. After we had some time to inspect the situation we realized that the sprinkler wasn’t the only problem. A pipe in the directors office had broken from it’s binding and slammed onto the top of the sprinkler.
This had also cracked the pipe and it was leaking too. Lucky for us Manatee County has a really good maintenance department, they met us that Saturday and got the leak stopped. They even helped us move desks, shelves, computers, and filing cabinets so we could remove all the water from the carpets. We also determined that many of the walls were wet as well.
We always check for structural moisture with our GE Surveymaster Protimeters. Moisture in walls is a big deal, especially in Florida mold growth can start within days if not treated and dried out. In a library mold could mean the end of countless works of knowledge.
We used professional extraction equipment to remove the water from the carpets, set our equipment, and wished our new friends a good weekend. After 4 days of drying we removed our equipment, checked out a couple books, and told them we would see them soon.
I think we are very lucky to have such wonderful government workers in Manatee and Sarasota Counties. At ServiceMaster SRQ we are here to protect your tax dollars 24 hours a day. We are here for you, even when you don’t know we have done anything.
